A new 20,000 Sq ft house in the Green Belt in Stanmore, Middlesex.

The client's brief was to have four private units combined into a large house for a multi-generational family, with various shared facilities as well as .

Planning permission for this large house inside the Green Belt (which normally precludes any development), was obtained following successfully arguing that the application should be examined on the basis of Very Special Circumstances under Planning Policy Statement 7: Sustainable Development in Rural Areas, in other words we had to create an exceptional design in order to have any chance of getting planning.

The Very Special Circumstances as concluded by the council, were that "the proposed new dwelling on the substantial site adjacent the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore is an innovative, contemporary and sustainable building that presents a new approach to architectural and environmental design for this area of Harrow".
